It started with a kid on a Kathmandu rooftop.

Kathmandu's early winters are crisp in the morning and sunny by lunch. Every season, Yaya cooks her favorite fruit, lapsi, down with sugar, salt and spices, then spreads it onto a bamboo nanglo. She pulls muslin over the top and leaves it out in the sun to slowly dry into a soft, chewy treat.

Right around the corner, though, Sanomaya has been hawking the nanglo all afternoon. The warm, gooey stage is irresistible. She waits as Yaya moves the tray to a sunnier spot. Sanomaya follows. Just as Yaya looks away, Sanomaya makes her move. Her paws pull off a lapsi heist. And like any good heist, a chase ensues.

Help Sanomaya get away.

This is Yaya and Sanomaya. Yaya makes the fruit chews. Sanomaya loves them. A little too much.

Our ode to titaura

A little sweet. A little sour. A little salty. Often spicy. Titaura is the kind of candy that refuses to pick just one flavor.

Across Nepal, it comes in different shapes, textures and combinations. Some are chewy. Some are gooey. Some are rolled, pressed, dried or folded.

Every family has its own way of making it. This is ours.

Fruit first.

No dyes. Clean ingredients.

Lapsi. Berries. Tamarind. Dates. Mango. Organic-sourced spices. Always fully vegan.

Hand made in Menlo Park. No shortcuts. Yaya wouldn't approve.

Sanomaya already grabbed some.
